Permits and Title 24

Refrigerant chargeRefrigerant Charge Verification by a certified HERS/ECC rater is mandatory in Climate Zone 15 (the Imperial Valley).

IID electric rates and programs

Imperial Irrigation District (IID) is the local utility - not SCE or SDG&E. Its rates are lower than the coastal utilities, but summer cooling is still 75-80% of a valley electric bill.

Base rate

IID's consolidated residential base runs around 22 cents per kWh with a fixed monthly customer charge. Current numbers are always on IID's rates page at iid.com.

Shift & Save

IID's time-of-use program puts the summer peak at 4-9 PM weekdays. IID has offered a $250 enrollment incentive for customers who shift usage off-peak - check iid.com for the current offer.

Summer bill credit

IID's board approved a direct summer bill credit on energy used June through September 2026 - 12% off qualifying consumption. Confirm the current program with IID.

Rates and programs change. We link IID's own pages rather than promise numbers - iid.com/power/rates-regulations/rates.

Desert-specific care

Valley systems live on silt, UV, and 115-degree afternoons. The short version: rinse condenser coils monthly in summer, test the capacitor every spring, protect line insulation from sun, and change filters on a desert schedule. The full routine is in our desert maintenance guide, and the highest-value DIY skill is in the capacitor guide.
